Subject:Help w/ID 19th Century Chinese Women's Embroidered Jacket
Posted By: Jim Mon, Sep 09, 2024 IP: 73.41.88.226

hi everyone. i found this at the local antique fair yesterday. i think it's amazing. there are a couple of small spots of damage, but overall, it's in pretty nice condition considering its age. i would like to know what the name for this garment is? i've come across "changyi" and "chenyi," and when i use those in google searches similar things do come up, but i would like to be certain. i have only found one example of a jacket that was completely similar to this piece in design. most are either not as elaborate, or front closing, or some other difference that makes them not a match. also, how old is this, and what was the cultural significance? was this a wedding jacket, worn with a matching skirt? finally, what kind of bird is that? i'm assuming the bird is intended as a reference to the woman's rank at the time of the wedding. is this correct? basically, i know next to nothing and i'm hoping someone with knowledge is out there and i can pick their brain. also, if you know of any websites or others i might contact that would be very helpful. any help i can find will be greatly appreciated...thanks

wow, i was really hoping for someone out there to have some information on this piece. i had no idea it would be this difficult to identify it. i did want to upload some additional pics, including one that has some words written next to an area where some fabric was harvested to make a small repair. again, any help will be greatly appreciated.

福 Fú (Fújiàn Province)
瞿蘭生 Qú Lánshāng

Probable the surname and given name of the owner.
