Subject:19th Century
Posted By: David C Mon, Aug 26, 2024 IP: 80.44.44.232

Hi Everyone.
I think these are Chinese 19th Century YEN YEN vases presented as a matched pair. One is 46 cm high and the other 45. They are a bit bashed up as you will see and one has a hairline. Am I correct with the date. They are quite imposing with their height.
Best wishes and thanks in advance
D

PS. I might be wrong about the shape by the way. I don't see tham as Hu form neither baluster. Yen Yen was the nearest in my opinion

I could be wrong but the particular the tone of the underglaze cobalt, the flower and grasses decoration in the reserve panels, and the fact that they are a mirror image pair makes me think that they might possibly be Japanese Seto porcelain vases, circa the Meiji period (late 19th century).

Thanks for the reply Robert. I ran them by a couple of people who know more than me and they thought Chinese as I did originally. Never considered Japanese. More research for me. Nonetheless, I appreciate your effort.
Best wishes
