Posted By: Bill H Sun, May 07, 2023 This plaque illustrates the "Demon Queller", Chinese demigod Zhong Kui, known as Shoki in Japan. In my opinion, this plaque is a more contemporary forgery of many in circulation with attribution to Wang Qi, a principal portraitist in the Jingdezhen artist group known as "The Eight Friends of Zhushan". The cyclical date of 1932 (Renshen year on the Chinese cyclical calendar) more likely would be 1992 if actually correct. |
