Subject:Marking on a small statue of Buddha
Posted By: Tony W. Tue, May 02, 2023 IP: 2607:fb90:8f1f:1fb4:

Dear friends,
It is a very small (3”) metallic statue of Buddha.
I am curious and really appreciate your help on the marking at the bottom, please 🙏
Tony

I believe the mark on your small image reads down and across from the top right as “National Treasure- Kamakura Great Buddha”, a huge representation of the Amida Bodhisattva or “Mortal Buddha”.

It looks to have some age but Japan experts in the Forum have the final say.

Dear Bill H.,
Very much appreciated of your time and kind help 🙏
With the info, I guess the statue is possibly the miniature / souvenir version of the Kamakura Great Buddha bronze and could be made a while back.

Possibly sold to tourists or to Japanese worshippers on a pilgrimage.

Best regards,

Bill H.
