Subject:Satsuma Vase What period,
Posted By: Eduard_flen Mon, Feb 20, 2023 IP: 2a02:2f00:610d:6e00:

Hello!

I have received this satsuma vase from my parents. It was bought at an auction in the '90s.
On the document it says its from the XVIII century but can anyone tell me if that is true ? The document is just a piece of paper with a logo from the auction house and a description of the item.
What period do you think it is from ? and which dynasty.
It has no markings.
Height 35cm

Thank you !

Tried to send a reply yesterday, but it apparently didn't pass muster. Here's another stab.

Your "vase" actually is a Meiji-period (1868-1912) censer that had a lid when fresh from the kiln. I've left the link and picture below from an auction result. The one I tried to post last night sold for $21 more than this one. With no lid and more wear, yours would probably not fare quite as well on sale but would still look great on display with an arrangement in it.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Agreed. Very nice but defo not 18th century. Late 19th or as Martin said 20th Taisho.
