Subject:Chinese Meiping Blue & No White Vase
Posted By: Dann D Thu, Feb 16, 2023 IP: 176.100.43.109

Hi All,

I have an interesting meiping form vase with a cherry blossom underglaze cobalt blue design, what I find strange about this piece is that it is of a lower quality clay so it doesn't have that beautiful white ground as most Chinese porcelain has so I thought I would post this here and see what others thought about it. What period do you think this piece was made? What are your thoughts on it?

D.

Nice vase. It could be Korean from the end of the Joseon dynasty.

Korean, I kind of had a suspicion but couldn't find a similar example with this design. Also, Korean 'meiping' tend to still have more of a white base & more matte type overglaze, like the example below. Thank you though, I will do some more searching - hopefully that will narrow down my search!
