Subject:Thai painting

I , too, purchased mine at the Surawongsee Gallery at the Oriental Hotel back in 1984/1985.

I know the Asians are experts at "antiquing" art but the worn appearance of these items sure begs to differ. If they are "modern" they sure have done an excellent job!

I also have a Samut Khoi (2nd photo) bought from the same gallery but have no way to authenticate the time period. On both, however, I will say that the gold leaf paint has no wear to it so it does make me wonder about the age of both.

I would say the top painting might be old, but not ancient. No older than the Ratanakosin Period. Nice work and nice border!
The writing on the manuscript is Cambodian (Khmer) not Thai.
