Just curious why you are describing this item as ivory. Does it have Schreger lines?
In your close up photo of the mark the material appears to be a resin faux ivory material.
You don't give the dimensions, but looking at the showcase it is sitting on we can see a camera which provides some scale.
Consider the monumental size a tusk would have to be to accommodate the top panel of the box.
Show us some Schreger lines, the bottom of the lid, the bottom of the box.
It's a cool piece I would buy as a decorator item to look at and put things in, but I certainly would not buy it as an ivory box.

Hi Gman
Thanks for you reply and comments.

I was interested in the makers mark on this box.
Seller a very experienced Asian person. The box is said to be ivory by seller. Price is an ivory price not cheap.Looked ivory to me.

unless it is a fake makers mark ,if not ivory.

If someone knows maker that may help.

Fred.

It looks to me like Schreger lines are faintly visible and have added an enhanced contrast image below. The phoenix and lion strike me as tending toward the Japanese style, but I.Nagy is better qualified to read the mark.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Hi Bill H
thanks for your help.
interesting again to see if anyone knows maker.
I could not find maker in my books.

I feel you may be correct ,that it may be Japanese.
