Subject:Chinese Bowl Help Requested
Posted By: BL Tue, Dec 06, 2022 IP: 74.71.16.159

Hello Everyone,
The photos below are of a bowl and the characters on its base. Any help with the translation of the characters would be appreciated. Thanks.

The six-character mark in standard Chinese script reads down and across from the right as "Made during the Kangxi reign of the Great Qing Dynasty" (Da qing kang xi nian zhi). Whereas the Kangxi Emperor ruled from 1662-1722, this bowl, its decoration and the mark itself don't compare favorably with anything I could find in any of my several references covering the reign period. In my opinion, this probably is the product of a late 20th century porcelain-painting workshop in Hong Kong or Macao or on China's border in their economic zone at Shenzhen along the northern border of Kowloon (across from Hong Kong Island).

Best regards,

Bill H.
