Subject:Mid-Century Byobu - Chinese or Japanese
Posted By: Brad Fenichel Thu, Nov 17, 2022 IP: 2601:145:c200:3375:2

Can anyone kindly translate the inscription on this vintage byobu for me? It was my understanding that it was made in Japan, but perhaps it was made in China? Any opinion on that matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It is Chinese,
松鶴延年 Song he yan`nian - Pine trees and cranes meaning long life
丙寅年初夏於曹南畫室
In the Beginning of Summer of the Year of Fire-Tiger (1986) at the Caonan Studio
Seal,
大嶺 Daling (Great peak) - Unidentifiable art-name

With regards,
