Hello.

Can somebody please help me translate/identify the handwritten signature on this bronze?

Thank you so much.

Signature reads,
かにや くにはる作 - Kaniya Kuniharu -saku - Made by Kaniya Kuniharu

(Alternative Kanas for technical reason are shown in their modern forms)

Kaniya Kuniharu 1852-1934
Meiji period craftsman. Served as professor of sculpture at the Tokyo Art School. Exhibited at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, Nagy san.

From a cultural viewpoint:

I asked myself, since the elder is dressed for cold weather, also indicated by the leafs on the ground:
Is he a musician or some kind of priest taking part in the new years celebration?

His right hand is empty but looks like he could have been holding something. Maybe a walking stick or
another instrument?

Miyamoto Shoko, located in the Ginza district of Tokyo, was a high level commissioning company, patronizing high quality work from leading artists as Kaniya Kuniharu (1869 – after 1910) and Oshima Joun (1858 – 1940).
