Subject:Japanese Seto Kogo/ incense case in odd shape of fish?
Posted By: Axel Mon, Sep 12, 2022 IP: 2001:1c03:5b0b:1800:

Any help finding the artist would be appreciated. I was thinking perhaps Shunji Kato but cannot confirm as i have no reference like this, though he was known for the mon correct?

Thank you in advance,

Axel

Seto ware
Marking reads;
碩山 - Sekizan
Kawamura Sekizan 河村碩山 1938-

The odd shaped fish is called 鯱 "shachi", a fabulous dolphinlike fish (killer whale). An enlarged pair of which were traditionally used to decorate the roof-ridge of a Japanese castle.

Thank you so much again! The heart shape on the left (think that's referred to at times as Tokugawa Mon, for which I only knew Shunji Kato to have used it as mark). Maybe they worked at same site? I'm going to try and research more thanks to your translation and additional backstory. Thank you very much!
