Subject:Fine Buddhist embroidery?
Posted By: Cara Mon, Aug 22, 2022 IP: 102.220.209.98

Hi I recently acquired this embroidery. I is very fine and detailed- see the magnificent undulations on the peaches! Can someone help with some more information about this type of embroidery? Many 😊

This is indeed a fine pair of apposed panels depicting a mix of the Eight Buddhist Treasures with Chinese symbols for longevity and good fortune, all done in traditional embroidery stitches. The dyes used in the silk threads appear to me to be traditional as well, suggesting a late Qing date of fourth quarter 19th century.

Best regards,

Bill H.
