Subject:Japanese sliding doors
Posted By: Luc Bouchet Sun, Aug 14, 2022 IP: 2001:56a:7c06:2700:3

Hello, these sliding doors were purchased in Tokyo a long time ago, and are from the Meiji period apparently. The characters may be old Japanese or Chinese...can anyone provide any insight as to meaning and decorative style represented here? One of the characters means "sake"... Thanks in advance!

I. Nagy, thank you so much, that is amazing. Two of my friends who are fluent in Japanese could not read this. Is it the style of language that tells you it is Meiji period?

Gut feeling based on more than 50 years of translation and Japanese antique shop browsing experience tells me this.

I'm new to this forum, but I believe that you are probably its greatest asset.
