Subject:Bowl - Republic Period Mark?
Posted By: Vincent Fri, Jul 22, 2022 IP: 195.77.16.5

Hi everyone,

I found this bowl. I think it’s a piece from the Republic period, but I can’t identify the mark on the base, or the characters that appear on one side of the bowl.

I would very much appreciate any help in that regard.

Best wishes!

Colophon;
仿古如意法 - Modeled after old masters
華興昌繪 - Painted by Huà Xīngchāng
Bottom mark,
華興昌畫 - Huà Xīngchāng -huà- Decorated by Huà Xīngchāng

Late Qing and Republic of China period.

With regards,
I.Nagy

仿六如之法, I think, referring to 唐六如, one of the nicknames for Ming painter Tang Yin, who for some reason is often added to qianjiang and late Qing items (as are the names of 八大山人 and (倪)雲林 (Ni Zan)), usually when the painting style has nothing to do with any of those artists.
