Subject:Help with Indian items
Posted By: Marote Sun, Jul 10, 2022 IP: 2a02:a456:b176:1:804

Dear all,

I hope you can tell me more about these items (use, specific rituals, age, anything more?).
The first is decorated with two peacocks and has an hinged part, with two compartments with kumkum powder (blue and green) and one with a mirror.
The second is a pipe, but I haven't been able to find another with a similar shape on the internet.
The third, I assume to be a hanging oil lamp. It's decorated with an elephant and two other animals (donkey and monkey?)

Hello,

Your oil lamp is from Bastar in Chhattisgarh, just northwest of Orissa, and in all likelihood dates to the middle to latter half of the 20th century.

I have attached two photos below for reference, one from a catalog of Indian devotional lamps and another of one of my own examples.

I hope this helps - hopefully someone can add to your research on the other items you have posted.

Cheers,
Chris
