Subject:Chinese Vase
Posted By: BL Fri, Jul 08, 2022 IP: 74.71.16.159

Hi,
I bought this vase several months ago at an Antique Show in South Florida. It is 8 1/2" high and 2 3/4" deep and wide. On the bottom there are characters and a hand written translation indicating that it was made during the 18th century. I have my doubts about its age and would appreciate anybody's thoughts about it. Thanks.

Your brass or bronze vase has a four-character seal script base-mark of "Made during the Qianlong reign" (Qian long nian zhi) rendered down and across from its top left. This is opposite the period style required by palace regulations. The patina also appears to be artificially induced by acid treatment. It probably dates no earlier than the mid-to-late 20th century in my opinion.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thanks Bill,
As I said I had my doubts and you have confirmed them. Also, the dealer could not vouch for the piece.
