Subject:need help with Chinese vase
Posted By: kaj lam Fri, Jul 08, 2022 IP: 31.42.0.103

Hello Chinese art lovers.
If anyone has knowledge that could be shared, I would like to know anything about the vase visible in the photos. What type of art is it and what does the mark on the bottom mean. Maybe something more...

Take care

Your vase bears a four-character standard-character mark, which reads down and across from its top right as "Made during the Tongzhi reign" (Tong zhi nian zhi - 1862-74). However, the black pattern of the vase was laid down using mechanically-printed transfers. Nuances of this practice and stylistic treatment of the figures depicted suggest this vase is a mid-to-late 20th century Chinese-made porcelain blank that was decorated and refired at a Macao or Hong Kong workshop.

Best regards,

Bill H.
