Subject:Translation Help Needed for a Japanese Vase
Posted By: BL Tue, Jul 05, 2022 IP: 74.71.16.159

Hello again everybody,
Once again thanks for all your past help. Below are two vases of interest to me that are coming up for auction in a few days. I'm trying to make out the translation of the characters based on previous help that I've received from the forum. I think the top character is the Shimazu family crest but I could use help for the characters below it. Thanks.
BL

Although the 1st Kanji is a little bit different, in my opinion the name is Hododa (others use Hotoda) 保土田, a well-known manufacturer and exporter of Satsuma ware since 1893 (Hododa Shoten).
These vases are typical examples of the kind of decorations made for Hododa.
Regards,
Martin.
