is this a jadeíte or nephrite plaque and how old is it. it is super transparant.

Carved in China, Burmese Jadeite. About 50 years old.

I think it is very nice. A thought: it appears to have two positions:
1) Standing upright
2) Resting on the raised oval on the back/bottom.
In the second position, it might be used as a brush wash (but it might be too shallow).

Thank's stan and indeed it has a double purpose and if of high quality pure jadeite.

Very nice carving.
As already noted by our esteemed member Ernest its highly probable to be jadeite jade.

To be fair, one also has to test if it is a natural color or if it is artificially dyed. Because it is a difficult stone to test, many experts refuse to test Jadeite.
