Subject:Identification of Utagawa Kunisada print
Posted By: Debra M Fri, Jun 24, 2022 IP: 67.0.74.194

I have had this Kunisada framed print for some time. I apologize for the glare on the glass.
Can someone please identify the title?
Thank you very much!

It’s the center sheet of a kabuki triptych by Kunisada I, here signing "Toyokuni ga".
Depicted is the actor Bandō Kamezō I as Edobei (江戸兵衛) in the play "Kutsuwa no oto tazuna no Somewake" performed at the Ichimura theatre, Edo.
Publisher is Kiya Sōjirō, date 5/1861 and the carver seal "Ōta hori Koma" (= Ōta Komakichi).
The complete triptych is in the Waseda database, no. 101-3668, 101-3669 and 101-3670.
