Subject:Chinese incense burner
Posted By: Peter Fri, Jun 17, 2022 IP: 178.165.202.18

I'd be grateful to learn if this object is indeed, as I suspect, a type of Chinese incense burner. A translation of the characters would also be much appreciated.

It measures c. 19cm in diameter and weighs approximately 1.1kg. I somehow get the feeling that it is probably not particularly old.

Your incense burner is Japanese, The central circular part with the square hole in the middle imitates the the head side of the famous Kan`ei Tsūhō (寛永通寶)copper coin which was in use in Japan from 1626 until 1868.
It could be ca. 50 years old.

With regards,
I.Nagy

This is a Japanese ashtray rather than a censer.
