Subject:Can anyone tell me the origin of this mark- part 2?
Posted By: Jeff R. Mon, Jan 17, 2022 IP: 170.75.139.3

Can anyone tell me what this mark is and its origin? It is on the bottom of both these pieces that are very translucent and light so I think they may be bone china. Thank you for any help you can offer. (I posted again because my photos and info did not show up on the last post.)

The mark reads: Tashiro 田代 - Mark of the Tashiro Shoten.

The original name of the company was Tashiroya (variation spelling Tashiro-ya) located in Nagoya and began in 1878 by Tashiro Ichiroji. Tashiro also opened a branch office in Yokohama. The company later came to be known as Tashiro Shoten (Tashiro Company) and changed their name to Tashiro & Co. Ltd., located in Nagoya. The company produced mostly export porcelains, which were hand painted in the Yokohama studio on the blank, but the actual pieces were made in either Arita or Seto. The company stopped production in 1954.

Regards,
Marti.
