Subject:Is this a Japanese ivory samurai chess piece?
Posted By: Margaret Szudy Sun, Dec 19, 2021 IP: 2600:1700:8c37:3f10:

My uncle in the Marines brought this small 3" ivory piece back with him from Japan c.1943. I don't know anything else about it. It is signed on the bottom. Is it part of a chess set or an individual figure? And can you date it or tell me anything else about it?
I am uploading 8 pictures total.
Thanks for your help.

Carver's signature reads,
玉水 - Gyokusui
It is an individual figure
