Subject:Imari Like Cat Information Sought
Posted By: Howard Dennis Wed, Dec 15, 2021 IP: 2600:8807:a64a:7f00:

Purchased this supposed Imari cat and wonder if I can find out the age, origin and what the signature says.

Thanks for any help you can give,
Howard Dennis

Your "Imari" style cat is a Chinese product of the late 20th to present century, not to be confused with an authentic old Japanese "Hello Kitty". The decoration is transfer-applied and not completely painted by hand. The mark on the base can be translated as "Precious Collection of Refined Trinkets" (Ya wan Zhen Cang - 雅çŽİ珍藏).

Here are some shots of another one in a different pattern and with a misleading decal-applied mark that reads down phonetically as "Imari" in Japanese. The website gotheborg.com opens their entry on Chinese factory names with a shop in that is believed to paint such fakes in Hong Kong on blanks made in China.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thank You Bill,
Appreciate the help. I'd completely forgotten about that link for marks.
