Subject:Republican period porcelain plaque
Posted By: Mark Adams Mon, Oct 04, 2021 IP: 115.64.226.67

Thought I would share with you a plaque by Xu Zhongnan 1872-1953. Dated 1939.
He was a member of the eight friends of zushan.
This plaque is a genuine example from the master who specialized in bamboo.
Regards,

The calligraphy reads:
'With higher moral and deep facing wind'
Imitate the old master Su Dongpu old man in bamboo. Signed Xu Zhongnan. Dated winter October (Bi Mao year corresponding to 1939).
His works are heavily copied. But my research and it's strong provenance suggests to me that it's a genuine example from the master.

Here is a similar one sold at sotheby's a few years back for $10,000.
Note the calligraphy is nearly identical. As is the read mark.
