Subject:Buddha wooden statue - thoughts?
Posted By: Argentina Mon, Sep 13, 2021 IP: 107.197.203.49 Hello all! I am trying to get more information on this Buddha statue I acquired about 1 year ago (potential country of origin? age? style?). It is 48 cms tall, and remnants of golden, red, blue and green pigments are still visible. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated! |

Posted By: Mike Fri, Sep 17, 2021 To my eye the style looks to be Chinese, that does not necessarily mean it was made in China as there has always been a large Chinese community on Java and it may be that this was carved in Indonesia for a Chinese client. I would have thought this would be 19th century at the earliest. |

Posted By: Argentina Mon, Sep 20, 2021 Thank you for the response - that's interesting, when i acquired this the statue was identified as "Balinese Buddha" but as you say, stylistically that didn't make much sense. Appreciate the explanation! |
