Subject:Unknown Japanese name
Posted By: Martin Michels Wed, Aug 18, 2021 IP: 2001:1c03:58c0:3800:

I came across this Satsuma mark.
The right column reads IMO as: Tenpo 天保 4th 四 year 年.
The left column starts with an unknown kanji for me followed by "sen" 仙. Perhaps Keisen 圭仙 or Gyokusen 玉仙 ?

So, 2 questions (I.Nagy ??):

1) what is the artist name?

2) What is is meant by "Tenpo 4th year", this piece is obvious not from the Tenpo era (1830-1844). For what reason is this text added?

Thanks in advance,
Martin.

Left side definitely reads,
玉仙 - Gyokusen
The name is unknown to me, Here, I found other Gyokusen, - it could be the same.

False dating was for deceptive purposes - anyway, it was made for export.
