Subject:Satsuma Temple Jar
Posted By: Rick Wed, Aug 18, 2021 IP: 72.227.229.225

Greetings!

I would appreciate some help in identifying the maker of this jar. I searched the Satsuma marks on Gotheborg but I could not find a match. Inside the jar was a small paper with information about Satsuma ware. The jar was sold at the Imperial Hotel's Arcade in the Toyo Porcelain Store. I'd love to know when this store existed at the hotel to help narrow down a date.

Many thanks,
Rick

The mark reads: Genzan 玄山.
Date: circa 1920-1930.
I have no further informatiom about this artist.

It's NOT a mark of Tominaga 冨永 Genzan, who was born in 1933 in Kobe and made Kyo-yaki in the 1960's and later.

Regards,
Martin.

I apologize for the distorted image of the jar...the first photo looks like a ginger jar but in reality it is a 12" temple jar. Any advice on how to post better (more accurate) pictures would be appreciated.

I've added the note that came inside the jar.

Thanks,
Rick
