Posted By: Robert Tue, Aug 17, 2021 IP: 98.182.119.129

Hi,
Can anyone help me translate this huge piece of silk measuring over 13 feet long? Any ideas on purpose or is just a roll of fabric?
Thanks so much!!

This is an obi (sash) to keep the kimono closed.
A normal obi can be 12" wide and about 13 ft. long.
These obis are traditionally produced in the Nishijin area of Kyoto.
Embroidered inscription,
美由幾唐錦 - Miyuki Karanishiki
Miyuki is a brand name.
Karanishiki: Tang Dynasty brocade i.e. beautiful pattern with crimson colors
Seal,
檢査證 - Inspection Certificate
合格 - Pass
西陣織物同業組合

Could be 70-90 years old.

With regards,
I.Nagy
