Subject:Large Japanese Bronze Reclining Woman - Maker's Mark & Age?
Posted By: Joe B. Mon, Aug 16, 2021 IP: 2601:205:381:4c70:a9

Trying again: Can anyone identify the maker's mark on this monumental size bronze reclining courtesan (I might have it upside down)? Also, does anyone have an opinion as to the age? I would normally suspect it to be circa 1890s Tokyo School because the quality is so good, but the underside is flat rather than done in the round as older Tokyo School bronzes usually are. Could this be because of the size, 12.25" H x 17.25 L x 8.25" D, 21 1/2 pounds, or because it's a later piece, Taisho or early Showa? A previous commenter thought maybe 1900-1920 which seems about right, but other opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance!
