Subject:Porcelain plate with blue painted scene please help identify
Posted By: Taylor Sun, Jul 25, 2021 IP: 162.253.50.222

Please let me know if you have any information about this plate. Like who made it, when it was made, what is the scene of? There is a sticker on the back that has worn off in the center. If you look at an angel it kind of looks like there is something written in the porcelain but there is no color just pure white. If I run my finger over the area if feels like there is something written there also.

This is an Edo style decorated plate with a typical Japanese scenery somewhere in Izu ; sailing boats on the sea, drying fishing nets, fisher and pines, Mt. Fuji in the background.
Label inscription,
正價 - Net price

I think that it is from the end of the 19th century.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Hi Taylor,
In my opinion it's Japanese and from the early 20th century. It's transfer printed.

Hi Mark,
Thank you for your reply. After reading your post I agree with your observation in that it is transfer ware. It seems unlikely for part of the image (on the backside) to be so off center if someone was painting each section by hand. Thank you for your help.
