日本 - Nippon
特製 - Tokusei - Specially Made

"Nippon" is written from left to right, so it may be considered as a post-war product, let's say 1950s-60s. This rising sun mark is the maker's logo, which is different from the "Rising Sun" flag with sixteen rays, so its use was not prohibited.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Hello Dana
The mark looks like the
Ashi Shoten Kobe Yokohama mark, rising sun, seen on silver plated work. I think they were retailers and had goods made for their shops, with this mark.

Regards Fred.

Thank you Fred, for your reply. Yes the rising sun is before WWII. But the way after the sun the kanji are put from what I searched first kanji is always last in Dai Nippon, now is first, as seen in second image. So it is like period I think close to 1945.

The mark reads Nippon 日本 Tokusei 特製 = Specially made in Japan.
According the Gotheborg website these Rising Sun marks with Nippon from left to right are from the 2nd half of the 1950's, see: http://gotheborg.com/marks/20thcenturyjapan.shtml
and scroll to Nippon Tokusei.
Regards,
Martin.
