Posted By: Regina Tue, May 04, 2021 IP: 213.55.241.142

Hello
Is this bronze statue a Chinese emperor or a Chinese deity? Who is it? Can someone translate the writing on the back?
Thanks a lot for help

Hi,
I have no definite answer but the hands positioning looks like that of Confucius in some sculptural forms. Maybe a nearby Confucian temple have the answer for you.
Regards,
Puti

I think the statue represents Shaohao 少吴, identified as the eldest son of the Yellow Emperor 黄帝 and Empress Leizu. Reigned around 2600BC.
According to the traditions he is a member of the Five Emperors.
The writing on the back is written in broze script, which was used between 10th-3rd c. BC. on cast bronzes. Reading of this script requires special kowledge.
Your statue is a museum reproduction.

With regards,
I.Nagy
