Subject:Looking for any information on this painting...

Hello! We've had this painting in the family for nearly 90 years and has a very interesting/sad story associated. I won't go into it all here for everyone's sake but will share what's relevant in relation to the painting. It was painted by a Japanese artist ~1930s (possible much earlier). My grandfather received it as a gift from the daughter of the artist while living there during the Korean War. It has a lot of sentimental value within our family and will be a family heirloom for generations to come.

I thought it would be nice to know as much about it as possible and was hoping the power of the internet could help. At a minimum, if anyone recognizes the name/stamp in the upper right-hand corner of the painting, that would be amazing. I included a close up of the stamp/artist signature below as well as a picture of the overall painting (still mounted on the original wooden frame).

I know this is a long shot but worth a shot nonetheless. Thanks in advance for any info/help!

Daniel

The character written in the box in Japanese reads,
新 - "Shin" with the meaning; new, fresh etc.
I don't know what it might mean.
However, in Chinese the same character 新 "Xin" is used as a surname.

With regards,
I.Nagy
