Subject:very large Chinese horse painting
Posted By: richard Thu, Apr 29, 2021 IP: 81.139.91.165

Dear All,

Could some one one please tell me what the red (artist?)seal and writing me means to the top left of this Chinese painting?
The painting is rather large and measures 100cm x 210cm. Apparently it was purchased about 30 years ago in Hong Kong?

Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

Stay safe

Richard

馬到成功 - Win instant success
癸未年夏日冩 - Painted on a Summer day in the Year of Water-Sheep (2003) by
Seal,
口口天氏 - Master 口 口tian
Two characters on the right side are too dim to read. Maybe, an enlarged picture only from the seal would help.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear Mr I Nagy,

Please find close up photo of the red seal on this rather large watercolour. I was told by the seller this painting was about 30 years old and purchased in Hong Kong. So it seems it is about 20 years old which is close enough

Thank you again for taking the time to look into this and reply to my question.

Kind Regards

Richard

Seal reads,
陳萌天氏 - Master Chen Bengtian
Unidentifiable artist
I have found a similar large scale painting on the Chinese "book.kongfz.com" site from the same painter with the same seal. The site read the artist's name
陳萌? - Chen Beng? (Seemingly, they didn't know what to do with the other two characters)
It is priced RMB400 ≒ $60 as repro

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear Mr I Nagy,

Thank you ever so much for this information and the link to the Chinese site.
I really don't have a clue what this copy you found means for the painting I purchased. Is this also a $60.00 copy (this means I paid far to much for it) or is this the original Horse painting with original seal and painted by this unidentifiable Master Chen Bengtian?
You have certainly given me a very good starting point for some further research.
So thank you again for your time and sharing your research. It is very much appreciated, as always.

Stay safe, stay healthy.

Richard

Dear Richard,
The URL of the Chinese link;
https://book.kongfz.com/12727/1249881293
In most cases you can't get connected to Chinese URLs. (Today, I couldn't access either)
According to my last visit (May 2) to their site,
8 pcs. of the same picture was on stock.
These pictures are reproduced by the so called "watercolor woodblock printing" technology. imvented in the 1950s.
After these there is a little likehood that yours is the original painting.

With regards,
I.Nagy
