Subject:Unusual Chinese Coffee/Teapot
Posted By: Peter Wed, Apr 21, 2021 IP: 178.165.129.223

I've recently come across this very unusual part service which quite puzzles me. I would be very interested to learn of it's origin and the significance of the mysterious symbols in the design.

The shape and style reminds me very much of mid/late 19th century Chinese export ware. However, the decoration is very odd, as well as the unusual bold characters.

It might well be a European attempt to simulate Chinese ware, using pseudo-Chinese characters?
Or even Chinese export ware with pseudo-European characters?
It could also be that the characters are simply decorative and have no special relevance at all.

Perhaps the more experienced amongst you might be good enough to shed some light on this matter.
I, for one, am baffled.

No marks on the bottom? Nothing here is Chinese. My guess is German, but not Meissen. Maybe not painted at a factory but at a decorating studio or by an amateur.
