Subject:Zitan Scroll Pot
Posted By: Jeff Thu, Apr 01, 2021 IP: 173.239.198.60

Hello everyone,

I have an interesting Scroll Pot that I have had for some time now. The wood appears as if it may be Zitan. A cotton swab dipped in alcohol turns red when rubbed on the wood. The wood has many gold threads visible throughout the pot. The color and grain are similar to a few of the Zitan stands that I have in my collection. I was hoping that some of the experts might be able to put an approximate age on it and give me their opinion of it.

Thank you for any help your can offer , Jeff

Here are a few more pictures. The last one is of the inside of the pot.

A few more pictures showing the inside of the pot, and the top edge of the pot that shows the end grain. The last picture shows the opposite side carving.

Jeff,

could you please give the dimensions of the pot?

The dimensions are 13.5" in diameter and 14.5" in height. it weighs 18.5 kg. You can see that the alcohol test turns the Q-tip red. The wood also sinks in water. When you look at the end grain or where the pot flares outward at the top and bottom, the gold threads that are visible in the flat grain look like golden stars.
