Subject:Help with Japanese Scroll Painting
Posted By: Stan Sun, Jun 03, 2018 IP: 75.68.107.184

I don't collect Japanese scroll paintings (yet), but I purchased a couple at auction to use for wall decoration. This one was sold as a "Woman playing a Koko" and my wife liked it. It is very attractive and even better when seen close up. The image is about 36 X 15 inches. Given the condition, I expect it was done recently. If anyone would be so kind as to translate the text and provide any insight, I would greatly appreciate it.

The seal appears to be illegible, but I will try to get an enlarged picture of it once this post appears.

Cheers,
Stan

That should be Koto (not Koko). Here is the faint seal below the signature.

Cheers,
Stan

I added a closeup of the geisha to bump this to the top with the hope that someone might be able to provide some information on this scroll.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Cheers,
Stan

I'll bump this to the top to see if anyone can translate this scroll for me. Many thanks in advance for the help.
