This is a Burmese-style of couched tapestry called "Kalaga", which typically show various figures drawn from the Buddhist religion or local deistic demigods and legendary beings. Yours may illustrate a Ramayana dancer.
On the downside, your example appears to be a Thai reproduction made at one of the many factories devoted to copying ancient arts and crafts of the region. I visited there many times during my six years with the US Mission in Thailand during the 1980s. Many like yours were seen during visits to the large night market there.
