The
removal of two hundred tractor loads of earthquake rubble from the
walled-in area of the gardens behind the museum revealed the remnants of foundations and walls that were most likely parts of the original seven
courtyards of the palace.
A
cylindrical deep-well was discovered, excavated and reconstructed with
its rim of original stones. Sunken courtyards as the one in the
foreground were laid open, with their pavement repaired, and integrated
in a new landscaping concept.
