Mukti Singh is one of Nepal's foremost traditional painters. A Magar from Bandipur in the Eastern hills, Mukti came to Kathmandu and began painting in the 70s, and quickly became attracted to the early medieval Newar style of the 13-16th centuries. In this style he has become a master, one of the only painters using this style and associated techniques who does not rely on copying earlier works, preferring to design his own compositions within the bounds of Newar iconography and style. |
