The figure stands in an iconic pose with no hint of movement and displays a stoutness associated with the style of Bakong. The simple sampot is delicately pleated at the front, the top of which folds over and fans out in a semi-circle, with the triangular corner of the inner edge hanging to one side.
The great stepped-pyramid temple of Bakong was built during the reign of Indravarman I (877-889 AD) and was consecrated in 881 AD.
