Restored House, Barkor.
The Trapchishar house, located on Barkor street adjacent to
the 7th century Jokhang temple, was derelict and scheduled for demolition. In
a pilot project, this house, and the ancient Chotrikhang (Dharma Throne House)
next door, were restored by the Tibet Heritage Fund in 1996. The original
tenants, who subsequently moved back into the house, were involved in the
planning stages and in further upgrading and maintenance works. In 1997, the
house also got a new sewage-pipe connected toilet.
