Detail: White Tara Portrait Very inticately woven Tibetan style thanka of the Goddess of Compassion. The lovely brocade patterns and jewellery that adorn this serene and beautiful figure, the many offerings placed upon a flower rising from the waves etc. are all woven with careful attention to the most intricate details. The spaciousness of the design gives this tapestry a magical quality. Traditionally woven thankas were used as shrine room decorations, religious offerings etc. and some of the earliest examples date back to the 11th-12th c. |
