Pair of Stirrups
Tibetan or Mongolian, possibly 12th–14th century
Iron, gold, silver
H. 6½ in. (16.5 cm)
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Purchase, Gift of William H. Riggs,
by exchange, and funds from various donors, 1999 (1999.119a, b)
cat. no. 127
The style, form, and construction of
this stunning pair of stirrups appear to be without precedent
and largely without parallel in the context of stirrups
from Tibet, China, or Mongolia.
