In earlier days, wood was extensively used for
architecture. Beyond performing mere functional
tasks, the wooden elements were intricately carved
with geometric patterns, repetitive shapes, and regional
deity reliefs. We also see instances of wooden
deities during the reign of the Malla kings after the
fourteenth century, and the practice continues until
today.
