During early winter, local women perform their daily
circumambulations around the chorten at Horchu. The flags are printed
with auspicious prayer, which carries on its back the flaming jewel that
grants all wishes. Every circumambulation of a mani wall equals
a recitation of the mantra carved upon its flat rocks, just as
each flutter of a prayer flag sends forth the charms printed upon it. Prayer,
circumambulation, prostration, offerings – religious merit comes from
all these rituals, for they are tangible links to a spiritual state, and
they bring the worshipper into contact with the divine. |
