Always moving in the clockwise direction and often spinning prayer wheels, worshipers circle the inner sanctum of the Jokhang on a sacred path known as the nangkor. Three koras emanate from the Jokhang and its central icon, the Jowo, a statue of the Buddha: the innermost, the nangkor, is fully inside the temple; the next, the barkhor (or simply kora) circles the entire Jokhang temple; the outermost, the lingkor, circles the sacred city of Lhasa. |
