Kawase Hasui (1883-1957): Ishizue, Niigata
1934
chûban 26.5 x 18.2 cm

Evocative evening scene of a lone figure who walks by a riverbank at dusk. We see a yellow moon rising in the far horizon; its reflection glimmers in the water, below. Willows line the riverbank (perhaps the Shinano River), and a parked cart and small empty boat also add to the solitary feeling. Hasui did not produce many chuban works.
